Built and delivered to South Carolina in 1990, the un- named DD 268 was sailed until she was recently donated to the community sailing program in Beaufort. She has not had a regular yearly maintenance schedule, but she certainly can be brought back to a fine example of this wonderful design. She is a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a cosmetic project but wants a structurally sound starting point. Equipped with a trailer, she is ready to be transported to a new home.
The Doughdish is a fiberglass reproduction of the original Herreshoff 12 1/2 footer. It is constructed in foam sandwich fiberglass with teak trim. It is built to the exact hull dimensions and rig of the sloops designed by N. G. Herreshoff in 1914. As a result they are able to compete against the wooden boats in class races and regattas.
